For those that are close to me, it’s no secret at all that I am a life-long fan of professional wrestling. Since childhood I’ve often expressed this through collecting action figures. Since the days of toy maker, Jakks Pacific’s partnership with WWE and ToyBiz’s partnership with WCW I found no greater pleasure than holding a new figure of one my favorite wrestlers.
One of my favorite pro wrestlers in recent history has been current WWE Champion, Ettore "Big E" Ewen. In 2020, following the killing of George Floyd in Mississippi, Ewen began appearing on television programs with new wrestling gear that featured civil rights heroes and inventors as well as wearing armbands during his matches with the names of victims of police brutality. This was the first part of an initiative to create a dialogue that would allow viewers to explore heroic figures in Black history to both educate as well as entertain. This initiative was titled "Our Heroes Rock", a concept that consisted of essentially “merging School House Rock with African American history”.
On the December 25th, 2020 edition of "WWE Smackdown" Big E competed for the prestigious Intercontinental Championship. Appearing in said "Our Heroes Rock" wrestling gear, Big E went on to win the championship in an event that is widely regarded to be a defining moment in his career.
To commemorate that event, I decided to combine both my affinity for pro wrestling as well as action figures by developing a concept design of a Big E action figure in the same gear he wore that night. Said figure features a small variety of accessories that I hope would make any fellow collector proud to own.
